“Future belongs to nations with grains and not guns” India is the worlds second largest producer of rice, wheat, sugarcane, groundnut, vegetables, fruit and cotton. It is also one of the leading producers of spices, fish, poultry, livestock and plantation crops. Worth $ 2.1 trillion, India is the worlds third largest economy after the US and China. Even after being one of the largest producers of key grains there exist a lot of disparity in the availability of food security to economic poor section of population. India ranked 101 st out of 116 countries as per 2021 Global Hunger Index report with a score of 27.5 which falls under serious hunger level. Ministry of Consumer Affairs, food and public distribution with its various initiatives and programmes including Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), has tried to tackle these issues however, food security remains a challenge for poor population.
